Send a test fax to this number

Fax the number below from the machine you want to check, and we will show you what arrived: how many pages came through, how long the call took, and whether the transmission finished or stopped partway. It costs nothing, there is no account, and the document is erased within the hour. To test the other direction — whether a line you are trying to reach can receive — use the test page instead.

The number

+1 945 229 0534

Send it one page, or several. Nothing is sent back to you and nothing is charged — the result appears here, not on your bill.

See the page that arrived

Faxing the number is enough to get the page count and the timing from your own machine’s confirmation report. To see the page we received — the actual image, at fax resolution, with whatever skew or cut-off edges it picked up on the way — tell us which number you will be sending from, so we can match it to your fax when it lands.

Your machine's own number, as it reports itself. On a multi-line office system this is often the main line rather than the extension.

You get a private link that shows the first page of whatever arrives. We do not send you anything, and the number you type is deleted within 26 hours of when you type it.

The link is private and lasts 30 minutes. If the caller ID your machine presents is not the number you gave, nothing will match — which is itself worth knowing, and the page explains what to do about it.

What you learn from it

A confirmation report from your own machine says the call completed. It cannot tell you what the far end actually got, which is the part that matters when a filing is rejected as unreadable.

Pages
How many pages our end received and acknowledged.
Call length
How long the two machines were connected.
Finished or not
Whether the transmission completed, or stopped partway with only some of the pages through.
Page one
The image as we received it, at fax resolution — skew, shadows and cropped edges included.
Caller ID
The number the phone network reported, which is often not the one on the handset.

If nothing arrives

Nothing arriving is a result, and usually a specific one. Working through it in order: the machine has to have an outside line and a dial tone; some office systems need a 9 or another prefix before the number; and a machine set to pulse dialing on a modern line will not get through at all.

If your machine reports the call as completed and nothing shows up here, the likeliest explanation is the caller ID mismatch above rather than a failed transmission — we received it, we just could not tell it was yours.

HP printers

On an OfficeJet or LaserJet the self-test is under Setup, then Tools or Service, then Run Fax Test — it checks the line, the dial tone and the phone cord, and prints what it found. That test never leaves the building. Faxing this number is the step after it: the HP report tells you the line is live, and the page here tells you what came out the other end.

Canon printers

On a PIXMA or imageCLASS the equivalent is under Setup, then Device Settings or Reports and Lists, where the fax reports and the user data list live. Canon machines print a transmission report per fax if it is enabled, and turning that on before you send here gives you both halves — what your machine thought it sent, and what we received.

What we keep

The document is erased 30 minutes after it arrives, and a record of that deletion is kept so the claim is checkable. If nobody is waiting for a fax when it lands, we never download it at all, because there is nobody it could be shown to — only the call is recorded: when it came, the caller ID, the page count and how long it lasted.

We do not read what you send or forward it anywhere, and the number you typed is deleted within 26 hours of when you typed it. Nothing arriving on this number reaches a person. Full detail on FaxMyDoc’s retention page.
