Yes, you can fax online: no machine, no fax number of your own
Yes. Online faxing sends a document to a fax number over the internet instead of through a fax machine and phone line. (source, read 2026-10-27) Sending does not require a fax number of your own, though you do need the recipient's. (source, read 2026-10-27) FaxMyDoc sends one fax to one US fax number for $4.99, charged once, with no account; it does not receive faxes.
What you need before you start
- The recipient's US fax number.
- Your document as a PDF, JPEG, PNG or HEIC photo; several files can go in one fax.
- A card. There is no account to create.
- A browser. A service that works in a browser works from an iPhone or Android phone without an app. (source, read 2026-10-27)
You do not need your own fax number to send. (source, read 2026-10-27) Device-specific steps are on iPhone, Android and computer pages.
What FaxMyDoc sends and what it does not
- Price
- $4.99, charged once, whatever the page count up to the limit
- Pages per fax
- Up to 30, however many files they come from
- Largest single file
- 4 MB
- Destination
- One US fax number per fax
- Account
- None; no subscription and nothing to cancel
- Receiving faxes
- Not offered. Receiving without a machine generally needs a service that gives you a fax number. (source, read 2026-10-27)
- Document retention
- Uploaded documents are deleted 24 hours after the transmission completes
If you need a number to receive faxes on, FaxMyDoc is not the answer. If you need to send one fax to a US fax number, within the page and file limits above, it is. Faxes to numbers outside the US are not something FaxMyDoc sends. For sending without a subscription, see one-time faxing.
How the send works
- Open the send page and upload your files.
- Set the order of the files and add an optional cover page.
- Enter the recipient's fax number.
- Check the preview: every page appears as it will be transmitted, in black and white at fax resolution.
- Pay and send.
Your card is authorized when you press send and charged only when the receiving fax system acknowledges the pages. A fax that fails, or that the receiving machine only partly takes, is not charged.
How long it takes and what the result shows
Most online faxes transmit within 1-3 minutes per page, depending on the recipient's connection quality. (source, read 2026-10-27) The record gives the destination number, the pages the receiving system acknowledged and the carrier's transaction ID.
Success reads "transmission confirmed by the receiving fax system": the receiving machine answered and acknowledged the pages. It does not show that a person read them. See what a confirmation proves, or why a fax fails.
Want to check the line first?
The test page sends one test page free to a number you enter, 1 per destination per day. Pricing detail is on the pricing page.
